WHAT THIS IS STUPID
I should preface this by saying that today in the New York Times Dining section, there's a lengthy article about eating squirrels. *THUMBS UP*

I started writing this entry last night when I heard a huge crack and suddenly all the power went down in the building-- a large branch had dropped on the power line. Haha, if it's not the water going out in this place, it's the electricity.

Goodness, it's been a while. Sorry, I'm still doing that if-it-doesn't-have-pictures-don't-post-it-publicly thing. Hope your respective New Years went well! My family did its usual traditional feast shindig, and it was wonderful. I feel odd, it seems like I'm doing art constantly but don't have anything to publicly show for it. There's J*W, I did some stuff for the Applegeeks DarkHorse book that I can't show, there's other comic work stuff that I can't show, O-OH I didn't mention that I'm subbing for Hawk at AG for the month... I, ah, I'm not really all that familiar with the characters so I'm going off Ananth's original descriptions of his characters which isn't really how Hawk draws them. A few fans are complaining that they can't recognize people. What can I do, I guess. ._. no-but-seriously it's not a big thing.

So a few days ago, [info]nedroidcomics did this awesome thing on his journal which naturally turned into a meme. I chimed in a few times. >_>

The thing is, that day I was stuck at Ananth's folks' place waiting for my old car's carcass (ah, pun not intended) to be picked up for donation. It was supposed to be picked up at or before 10. It was picked up after 3. So I had this indeterminate chunk of time to wait with the knowledge that the tow truck would come at any minute. So I made this atrocity.

(original by Artemisia Gentileschi, it's easily one of my favorite paintings)

Seriously, go through the comments in the entry, they're all gems. XD

I feel weird posting only o3o faces, so here is the latest applegeeks comic without the text:

And a doodle of a cat on my ink test page:

Yay for different body types!

I like your cat.

I can't believe a fireplace fell on the power line like that.

I go about once a year to visit my family these days, but it's usually spent rushing around visiting relatives and maybe getting in a meal or two at old favorite restaurants. Never enough time to poke around and discover new stuff!

The o3o faces cracks my shit up. In fact, the stabbing picture, the person with the white towel on their head, the face looks like Jimmy from South Park (the other crippled kid with the crutches).

I too also had lotus root for NY's. The Vietnamese eat it as well since we were at a Vietnamese friend's house and they made up a bunch of good food.

IT IS SO GREAT, it brings a tear to the eye.

I didn't know a bunch, either... I feel terrible that I don't recognize that one painting with something sitting on a reclining woman with a horse in the background. It is a pretty great painting and I feel like a worse person for not having ever seen it before. ._.

It is tons of fun! :D

I can't remember if it was ever formally taught to me or what, but it seems like the sensible thing to do. I always get bits of paper pulp stuck in my nib. :/ The paper I've been using is more or less decimated with ink. XD

I got scolded by a professor about it when I would clean my nib on the blank edges of my pieces and not crop it off before presenting it... so I just saved the scraps of bristol and used those. Feels less wasteful and almost recycling-ish... @_@

Yay ink test page! I should be more creative and draw with white on top of them instead of throwing them away when they get too gross x3

I tend to get... kind of attached to my test pages? I wind up working at them longer than whatever I'm using it to blot ink for. The one I scanned in I've been using for three or so months now, it has character to it!

I didn't have that big a problem with recognizing the characters in the second guest strip, but I definitely didn't peg Gina as herself in the first strip, because I rather depend on the purple hair to identify her. (No offense to Hawk, but he doesn't always draw super distinctive face shapes or anything.)

I especially love your Alice and Jayce, they are adorable.

And thanks for linking the o3o meme, I tried my hand at it!
